Alfred Neville Swearer

 

As the local undertaker for many years Alfred Neville Swearer was born in 1869, the youngest son of John and Mary Ann Swearer. Married in 1891 to Mary Ann Denham, he had four children.

 

During the First World War he was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Ramsey Volunteer Training Corps. Joining the Fire Service circa 1900 he was a very strong advocate for the local brigade. He became chairman of the then Ramsey Urban District Council and served as Mayor of Ramsey for a year. Alfred died in 1934, aged 65.

 

His memorial inscription reads:

"In loving memory of Alfred Neville Swearer JP, died April 10th 1934, aged 65 years. To live in the hearts we loved is not to die".
