Restoration of Jabez Papworth Headstone

Interred in our cemetery is Jabez Papworth, also known as the "Potato King". He was responsible for naming the King Edward potato and growing the first commercial crop of King Edward potatoes.

Helen Friars, who is related to his wife, Sarah Matilda Seekings, who is buried with Jabez Papworth, has been responsible for instigating the restoration of their headstone which has now been lifted, no easy task as it is solid marble, and taken to Fenland Stoneworks Ltd at Yaxley, who will clean, refurbish and re-instate it.

We have been working closely with Helen in this restoration and we would like to thank Helen for all her hard work.
