In loving memory of John Kilby who died August 22nd, 1886, aged 67 years. In the midst of life we are in death. Also, of Louisa Kilby his wife who died April 8th, 1899, aged 68 years. The Lord gave and the Lord/hath taken away.
John was the son of Richard and Ann Kilby and was living in Stocking Fen on the 1861 Census. Along with him was his wife Louisa (daughter of Ann and ? Fowler, whom he married in 1850) and his children: Mary A (aged 9), Sarah (7), Elizabeth (5) and George (1).
In 1871 John’s occupation is listed as being a labourer on the road and as being born in St. Ives. Louisa is listed as being born in Woodwalton. Along with them are: Sarah J (18), George (11), John (9), Susan (7), Tom (2), John’s father Richard and their eldest daughter (who by this time had married) Mary A Pope (20).
The 1881 Census has them living at Allpress Gardens with Tom and another daughter Laura (aged 9).
By 1891 Louisa was widowed and living in Little Whyte along with her sons John and Tom and her grandson George (aged 12).
